As design tools become faster and more automated, the physical act of making often gets left behind. This project is a deliberate choice to slow down, put deeper thought into the process, and treat that making process as the actual message.

The result is Sculpted, an experimental, hand-sculpted typeface featuring three styles: Stone, Felt, and Glass. For each material, I let the unique physical properties guide and dictate the typography:

• Stone: Hand-carved from soapstone, where the grain of the rock demanded strong weight and structural permanence.

• Felt: Needle-felted by hand, allowing the soft, interlocking fibers to create organic, textured forms.

• Glass: Shaped using flameworking, capturing the fluid, molten tension of the material before it solidified into delicate structures.

Each letter was photographed to document the time and labor built into it. I wanted to share this project to inspire our design community to bring more intentional, physical effort into our work and take inspiration from the tangible world around us.
