The Vocabulary Project

This typographic design series started as a personal project to expand my vocabulary, driven by my love for language, etymology, and pretty much anything to do with words. The concept is straightforward: I pick a word I’m not familiar with from the dictionary, and find a way to express its meaning entirely through typography.

Instead of just typesetting a definition, I wanted to see how the shapes of the letters themselves could tell the story. The process is a mix of research and experimentation. I look into the history, rhythm, and tone of each word, and then design or manipulate custom type to reflect that exact feeling.

Because these designs are about how we interact with language, the project naturally evolved beyond a single format. I began translating the layouts into a broader visual system, exploring how the typography adapts to physical products, apparel, and everyday objects like t-shirts and tote bags. Moving the type onto wearable pieces allows the collection to live out in the world, turning simple definitions into a tangible form of personal expression.

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
